Now I know everyone loves to get up Monday morning and head off to work or school! You show up with a huge smile on your face and leap for joy as the homeroom bell rings or as you punch in…most likely not! But what we must remember is that God wants everything we do to be unto the Lord, so He can bless it! God is not going to bless complaining and lack of effort! This is something that was implemented into my life at a young age through my parents. I always saw my dad doing everything to perfection, whether it be ironing his shirt for the job or changing the brakes on his car on the weekend. It seemed to me that my dad always did things with a spirit of excellence. I asked him one day when I was young, “Why! Doesn’t it stink to go to work or change the brakes on your car?” He said, “Yeah sometimes it does, but the Lord can’t bless that time or effort unless you do it with a spirit of excellence.” This statement hit me like a ton of bricks and changed my mindset on school, work, and any daily activity I performed. Maybe this is why I try so hard in youth group sports… I am still unsure. Hahaha.
Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. God wants you to do everything in your life extremely well! He wants you to take on each day with the best effort and attitude you can, SO HE CAN BLESS YOU! It doesn’t matter if school is horrible or going to work can be a drag, you have to do it no matter what, so you might as well do it with a spirit of excellence! Having this spirit of excellence will not only help your emotions throughout the day, but it will enhance your performance, too. When this occurs, it will open doors for promotions, scholarships, and elevation in your life physically as well as spiritually! Think of it as if you are doing it for God! Taking a test for God, making a sandwich at work for God, writing an essay for God, holding a meeting at work for God, you get the idea. He is right there watching, so do it as unto God always!
