Day 13
“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them and they follow Me.”
– John 10:27
Additional Reading: Romans 8:14-16John 16:13-15Joshua 1:8
Many people are unsure of their ability to hear God or the ability to know His voice when they do hear it. They are afraid that they won’t be able to tell when the Holy Spirit is talking to them. What they don’t realize is this: Hearing the voice of the Spirit is a privilege that belongs to every Christian (Romans 8:14). All you have to do is accept the truth by faith and get ready to hear. Jesus said His sheep will know His voice and they won’t follow the voice of a stranger. That is a promise from God to you today. Remember that the next time Satan tries to tell you that you can’t hear God’s voice. The best way to learn to hear Him is to get to know Him through His Word. The Holy Spirit will never say anything that is contrary to the written Word (John 16:13). Simply stated, if you don’t know what the Word says, you will find it more difficult to know His leading.
Hearing the voice of the Spirit is a privilege that belongs to every Christian (Romans 8:14).
When your family or close friends call you, do you know who it is before they say their name? Sure you do, because you have spent enough time with them that you are familiar with their voices. Get familiar with God’s voice by studying His Word. Follow God’s instruction to Joshua (Joshua 1:8); study and think about it day and night. Act on what you find in the Bible, not just when it’s easy, but every time. Obey Him even in the small things. That consistent obedience to His Word will make you mature, and will tune your spirit to the voice of the Holy Spirit. You will soon be able to recognize it as easily as you recognize the voice of your family/close friends.
So instead of wondering, start expecting to hear from Him. Then start sharpening your spirit by spending time in His Word.
Confession for today: “I listen to the voice of Jesus. He knows me and I follow Him.” (John 10:27)
