Living as Those Made Alive in Christ

Day 06

“Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your  life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

– Colossians 3:1-10

The enemy is constantly trying to stop us from living a life that is alive in Christ so we always feel defeated and unable to separate ourselves from the world and its ways.  So how do we protect our hearts and minds from giving into evil thoughts and desires that lead our hearts toward the lusts of the flesh?

Colossians 3:1-10 shows us exactly how to accomplish that:

V.1 – Seek and aim at things that are above, not what is of the earth.
V.2 – Set your mind on things above, not on things of this world.
V.3-4 – Make sure you keep your old life dead. Live hidden with Christ so we can appear with Him in glory.
V.5-7 – Kill your flesh once and for all, and stop allowing your members to control.
V.8 – Put away and rid yourselves of the works of the flesh. Make a conscious effort not to have anything to do with them.
V.9 – Strip away the old way of talking and living.
V.10 – Put on new clothes, God’s glorious clothes, like we were created to have on since the beginning of time.

Ultimately, the choice is yours! Keep your hearts pure and undefiled by not allowing yourself to get caught up in the works of the flesh!

Confession for today: “Holy Spirit help me each day to aim and seek for the things the Word says about me and what I can be in Christ, so that I have no room for the works of the flesh to creep into my life and keep me from “Living Alive in Christ!”

Seek Him first!
