What we fix our eyes on will be the direction we head in. Wherever our gaze is set is where we will be propelled forward on a direct course.
Genesis 13:12 tells us how Lot faced his tent toward Sodom and Gomorrah. This was not the place God had set aside for Lot to inhabit. However, this was what Lot was longing for and looking towards. It was a place of sin and ungodliness. After a long time of looking toward that city, it is exactly where Lot ended up.
Proverbs is telling us to keep wisdom’s words in our sight, to FIX our mind’s eye on the path which wisdom has for us, and to not turn our gaze toward any other place. Just like a treasure map, the Word will lead us to a place where we will be satisfied and filled with the goodness of God! Fixing our focus intently takes both discipline and a deep desire to reach the place where God has set aside for us to inhabit. We can stay focused through discipline, by relying on the Holy Spirit and the gifts and abilities that we receive through Him.
Where is your gaze fixed today? School, relationships, a problem? What is wisdom saying about those points of focus for you today?
Confession for today: “Lord, I desire for my eyes to be fixed on the point of destination which You have for me to walk towards. I trust Your path for my life in every area, and for Your wisdom to guide me along that path. Even when obstacles try to block or distract me, I will keep my eyes fixed on You!”
