Day 05 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they...
“God—you’re my God! I can’t get enough of you! I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6
Focus – a center of activity, attraction, or attention
Action – the accomplishment of a thing usually over a period of time
Inseparability – seemingly always together: very intimate
Trust – assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something
Hunger – a strong desire
Have you ever been outside on a hot summer day and found yourself extremely thirsty? Maybe you were going for a run or walking to a friend’s house and suddenly that sun beating down on you felt even hotter than earlier. In that moment, all you can think of is how thirsty you are. The first thing you will do when you get to where you’re headed is grab a glass of ice-cold water and quench that thirst. Maybe you have experienced a day where you didn’t have time for lunch, and all the way home on the bus you were thinking about what you would eat when you got home. Those are natural examples of a hunger or thirst. These are strong desires that don’t go away without action on our part.
In Psalm 63:1 it says, “I’ve worked up such a hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts.”
In life, our daily responsibilities can cause us to feel weary because we are out in a world that is as dry as a desert. Sometimes, when we are around people who challenge our choices and disregard our beliefs, we work up a sweat. Our faith in God may start to feel depleted, weak, and in need of replenishment. In these moments, what’s the answer?
Psalms 63:2-4 says, “So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless you every time I take a breath! My arms wave like banners of praise to you.”
God gives us everything we need in His presence. In this moment, right now, He is filling you up. You are drinking in His strength and glory to get you through this day! God never leaves us empty. He never leaves us broken. When we submit to Him in His presence He can freely refill our hearts.
Find peace in His embrace,
