Tipping the Scales

Day 31

“For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! So we look not at… (verse 18)

– 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Think of the scale of justice, a simple tool used to show weighing evidence. As we take the losses that we may have experienced, or are experiencing right now, and then place the evidence of the Word of God on the opposite side, we will see that God’s promises, God’s working in us, hold a greater weight; the more powerful evidence! This then makes the losses, the heart ache, the disappointments, seem light and momentary.

The hardest trial you are walking through, the weight of the burden you are carrying, will only become light when you place God’s Word on the opposite side. The working that is taking place in you through the loss is producing something great that hadn’t been there before. We take that which we have acquired and place it on the scale. Now the scale is tipping and the trial, the test, the temptation has become light. This is how the great weight of glory is felt in our lives!

The hardest trial…will only become light when we place God’s Word on the opposite side.

Where in your life have you experienced loss? A relationship you once held close in your heart? Now the Lord has filled that space in you. This is a great gain: to walk in unbroken fellowship with your Savior! Is there a trial of seeking knowledge where you are at loss of knowing the right thing to do? Now, after seeking God’s wisdom, you have gained His knowledge. It is great to have the natural loss of direction only to gain His divine wisdom. As you are reading this, what is your current loss? Now put the evidence of God’s promises to you on the opposite side of the scale. What is the glory you have gained?

Confession “Lord, the loss, the trial, this season of my life has seemed so heavy! Help me Holy Spirit to apply the promises of the Word to take them as the gain. As I do this, the scales will tip showing Your glory to be made greater in my life!”
