Practice Makes Perfect

Day 06

“But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).”

– Galatians 5:16

Additional reading: Galatians 5:13-16, 17-21, 22-25

The enemy always wants to keep us from living a life according to the Spirit. Living in the Spirit is where we grow and thrive, and in the flesh we die and waste away.

Practice makes perfect. Doing the same thing over and over again causes us to get better at what we are doing. If we sin with no repentance, we create a huge issue in our spiritual lives that will cause lots of problems for our future! However, if we habitually live a life led by the Spirit of God, we will see a life filled with God’s blessings and peace. The more we obey the voice of God and follow His Word, the more we will see greater results in our spiritual lives. In verse 17 of chapter 5 we see the spirit will always be at war with the flesh, so it’s important to keep the flesh out of our lives so we are not fighting against what God has for us through His Word.

To make it easier to understand, read verse 16 like this:

“Make the path of the Spirit the place where you habitually walk and live. Become so comfortable on this spiritual path that you learn to leisurely and peacefully stroll along in that realm. Living your life in the Spirit realm is the best way to guarantee that you will not allow the yearnings of your flesh to creep out and fulfill themselves.”

Confession for today: “Holy Spirit help me to always follow your ways and live a life that is habitually walking down the path of righteousness so I don’t get drawn down the path the enemy has for me, which leads to death and destruction.”

Seek Him first!
