Good and Perfect Gifts

Day 31

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

– James 1:17

Who doesn’t love gifts? We all love to receive them and there’s nothing quite like opening a gift from someone that just seems to know exactly what you love. There’s also nothing like receiving a gift from someone who has no clue. Maybe it came from an aunt who still thinks you’re eight, or from an older relative who thinks that a sweater with elbow patches would look great on you. Without hesitation you say to yourself, “I’m not keeping this!” and you pray you’ll find a gift receipt in the box.

James 1:17 says, “every good and perfect gift is from above,” coming from our Heavenly Father who doesn’t change. God is always trying to give good and perfect things to us, but He’s not the only one who’s out making deliveries. We have an enemy who has some nasty things picked out that he’d love to get us to sign for. The enemy tries to bring us worry, anxiety, fear, guilt, and shame just to name a few, but, just like those awful gifts we are certain we are not willing to keep, we can immediately determine that we will absolutely not keep what the enemy wants to give us. We refuse ownership of anything that does not come from our Father God. Worry, anxiety, fear, guilt and shame are not good or perfect for us. We can simply say, “In Jesus’ name, I don’t receive that!”

Refusing to receive those things is not a denial that they have showed up. We are simply exercising the power to refuse to keep it.

We refuse ownership of anything that does not come from our Father God.

This verse is our standard. If it’s not a good and perfect gift, it’s not from God. Return to sender in Jesus’ name!
