In Spirit and in Truth

Day 21

“But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit [from the heart, the inner self] and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers. God is spirit [the Source of life, yet invisible to mankind], and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

– John 4:23-24

As I prepare for the Advance, I always take some time to think about the past services and the way God moved in my life. Each year I have seen God’s presence manifest in a powerful way. I started to wonder: What makes these worship services so great, and why are there other times that don’t “feel” as great? The Holy Spirit led me to this verse in John 4. Jesus was talking to the woman at the well. She was asking who He was. Jesus answered her and revealed to her what true worship is.

For most of us, when we hear the word worship, we think about a service or a certain song. The truth is, that is only a part of worship. Jesus told us where true worship comes from! True worship comes from our spirit and it is so much more than a good bridge in a great song. When we turn our hearts over to Jesus and live for Him with all we have, we are worshipping Him in spirit and in truth. The words of the song can help us to focus our minds on who God is and what He has done, but worship comes from within us. We worship God in everything we do. Just by living according to His word, we are worshipping Him. Ultimately, worship is more than just how we feel. It isn’t about how great the song is or how many people are jumping. That’s just physical evidence of what is already happening inside each of us.

When we turn our hearts over to Jesus and live for Him with all we have, we are worshipping Him in spirit and in truth.

Every day of your life is your worship. I encourage you to live your life in spirit and in the truth of God’s word!

What is true worship and how can you live a lifestyle of worship?

Find peace in His embrace,
